Don’t neglect nurses’ plights, welfare – Ogun NANNM Chairperson Advises Govt.

The newly elected Chairperson of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Nurse Adejoke Bello, has called on the state and federal government to create enabling environment for health professionals to address the challenges of brain drain in the country.

Nurse Bello, made this plea recently, while speaking with journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital shortly after her emergence as the chapter’s chairperson.

She urged the governments not to neglect the plight and welfare of nurses, saying neglecting their needs breed brain – drain witnessed in the country’s health sector.

Similarly, she called on the stat governments to employ more nurses, most especially in the state to attain easy and accessible healthcare delivery.

While acknowledging the contributions on government in the health sector, called on them to look inward and acknowledge the effective impact uses have in the health sector.

She said, “the most important challenges facing the nurses is the brain – drain, as majority of the nurses have travelled abroad and it’s seriously affecting us as the little ones available are overworked”.

“I am therefore plead with the federal and state governments to employ more nurses as the current happening is bitting so hard on us”.

Comrade Bello, however charge all nurses in the state to prioritize their health and be up and doing in line of duty.

She thereafter assured them of good synergy with the state government and relevant stakeholders to ensure adequate manpower development and robust welfare packages.

“I want the best for my nurses and their welfarism is important to me and we are going to work with the government and relevant stakeholders to ensure its reality”.

“I am going to work tirelessly with other team members to achieve greatness for the nurses and I am seeking for their support, cooperation and prayers to enable us have fruitful tenure in office “, she added.
