An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of 19-year-old Tochukwu Akalogwu, who is accused of defiling a 5-year-old schoolgirl.

The police charged Akalogwu with defilement of a minor, which contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, declined to take Akalogwu’s plea, citing lack of jurisdiction. Instead, she directed the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice. The matter was adjourned until May 28 for mention.

According to the prosecution, Akalogwu, an employee of Hope Primary School, Badagry, allegedly committed the offense on April 3 by forcefully having sexual intercourse with the minor.
