Police smash insurgency gang in Anambra

The police in Anambra says it has smashed what the command described as a deadly insurgency gang while on patrol with local vigilante group at Awka-Etiti, in Idemili south local government area of the state.

In a statement made available to newsmen by the state police command spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, said the joint security patrol team chased the hoodlums until the vehicle they were in ran into a ditch.

Two members of the gang were said to have been arrested after a shootout, while four AK 47 rifles were recovered, alongside one Toyota SUV with a Lagos registration number.

In another development, a Toyota venza car was said to have been intercepted by the joint security patrol team which led to the driver fleeing as thirty four live cartridges were recovered from the car.

The Anambra police commissioner Aderemi Adeoye while commending the team, said the state will be made too hot for criminal gangs to operate except they are ready to meet their Waterloo.
