Ogun State Technical, Vocational Education Bill To Advance Technological Innovation – Oluomo

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo says the recently passed State Technical and Vocational Education Board (amendment) Law, 2019 by the State Assembly will enhance seamless learning and exhibition of technical skills and innovative ideas by the youth for the development of the State.

Oluomo made the remarks shortly after the Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Arch. Segun Aluko, conducted him round facilities including Mechanical ventilator, Disinfectant booth, Movable environmental sanitizer, multiple hand washing and sanitizing machine all fabricated by the institution.

The Speaker accompanied by Honourables Lateefat Ajayi and Yusuf Adejojo emphasized that the new legislation by the 9th Assembly aimed at reviving technical and vocational education in the specialized curriculum, with a view to producing competent technicians with the needed skills and knowledge in contributing to technical advancement of the society, which remained one of the core mandate of polytechnic education in the nation.

He encouraged youth to embrace vocational skills which remained essential factors in the developing nations, pointing out that a section of the new bill sought for the provision of funds for residents of the State, who were interested in technical and vocational education.

Oluomo lauded the polytechnic team for deploring its human resources for the development of facilities that could assist in the fight against the ravaging pandemic with major benefit to health institutions even after the pandemic, saying that the polytechnic institutions had continued to be a pride to the nation at critical times.

He further tasked members of the academic community to meaningfully engage the political class on issues of development towards encouraging exchange of ideas that could evolve more development in the State and nation at large.

Earlier in his remarks, the Rector, explained that the automated and mechanical devices were locally manufactured by the institution as part of its effort to flatten the curves of the pandemic, with a task on government and corporate organisations to support the initiative.
