Barely a week after conveying a public hearing on the proposed Public Private Partnership Law, 2019, the Ogun State House of Assembly today passed the bill meant to attract more public and private partnership initiatives for the provision of more infrastructural facilities in all parts of the State.

The bill titled:”HB No 028/OG/2019- Public Private Partnership Law of Ogun State, 2019″ was passed at a plenary presided over by Speaker Olakunle Oluomo, following the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Commerce, Investments and Industries by its Chairman, Hon. Kemi Oduwole.

Oduwole subsequently moved the motion for the adoption of the report which was seconded by Olakunle Sobukanla and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote after which the bill was later read and adopted clause- by- clause by the Committee of the Whole House.

The motion for the third reading of the bill was therafter moved by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff and supported by the Whole House, while the Ag. Clerk of the Assembly, Deji Adeyemo read the bill for the third time before the lawmakers.

Consequently, Speaker Oluomo directed that the clean copy of the bill be forwarded to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

It would be recalled that Stakeholders who converged on the Assembly attested that the PPP Law was meant for the development of public infrastructure across the State, positing that it was committed to addressing the age-long problem of inadequate infrastructural facilities, as it was capable of developing public assets, funding and monitoring of infrastructural facilities through feasible public and private partnership efforts.

Meanwhile, the Assembly has acknowledged Governor Dapo Abiodun’s correspondence intimating it of his intention to present the 2020 budget proposal to the Assembly next Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019 at 10.00am.

The letter dated 25th November, 2019 and read by the Speaker, Rt Hon Olakunle Oluomo, before the lawmakers during today’s plenary, partly reads “in accordance with the provision of the Section 121 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), I write to inform the Honourable House that I intend to present the Ogun State Year 2020 budget proposal to the Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday, 3rd of December, 2019 at 10.00am”
