The faces of students at Police Children School Eleweran in Abeokuta, Ogun State, were lit up with joy as Ambassador (Dr.) Babatunde Adeyemo, the Chief Executive Officer of Pelican Valley Nigeria Limited, distributed an array of branded school bags.
This act of generosity was a fulfillment of his promise made during his speech as Chairman at the school’s vibrant end-of-year prize-giving ceremony and passing-out parade held on July 30.
On Wednesday, the brief ceremony, which was overseen by the school head teacher, Mrs. Oluwa Modinat Folashade, saw Adeyemo emphasize that the school bags were intended as a motivational tool for the pupils, encouraging them to embrace their rich African cultural heritage while striving for excellence in their education.
Describing the pupils as the “future torchbearers” of Nigeria, Adeyemo called on parents, educators, government officials, and policymakers to invest in nurturing positive attitudes and character in children during their formative years.
“We must work together to reshape the narrative about Nigeria and build a secure and prosperous future,” he stated.
Adeyemo expressed his commitment to continually support the school, inviting its management to identify any challenges where his assistance could make a difference.
He urged well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the infrastructural and personnel development of Nigeria Police Children Schools nationwide, stressing the importance of providing conducive learning environments for the children of police personnel, who play a vital role in safeguarding the nation.
Drawing from his own life experiences, Adeyemo highlighted the importance of instilling in young minds the belief that success is achievable in Nigeria without resorting to unethical practices or seeking opportunities abroad.
“I want every Nigerian youth to understand that it is entirely possible to succeed in this country without cutting corners. While many may feel disheartened by the current state of our nation, it is crucial to inspire them to follow the path of honor and integrity,” he affirmed.
He noted that the formative years, particularly between the ages of zero to nine, are critical for children’s rapid intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.
“This is the time when curiosity is at its peak. I believe we are starting to change the narrative, and with God’s grace, we will see positive outcomes,” he added.
In her remarks, Mrs. Oluwa Modinat Folashade commended Ambassador Adeyemo for his generous contributions, including previous financial support extended to the school during its graduation ceremony.
