Women from Akoko Southwest council area in Ondo state staged a peaceful protest, half-naked, to condemn the resurgence of violent crimes by suspected herdsmen in their community.

The protest follows the gruesome murder of a farmer, Sunday Ayeni, and the destruction of farmlands by herdsmen.

The women, who stormed the palace of the Olubaka of Oka, Oba Adebori Adeleye, during a security meeting, demanded justice for the victim and an end to herdsmen attacks.

They alleged that suspected herdsmen had raped women on their farmlands, destroyed crops, and forced farmers to abandon their farms.

Their spokesperson, Mrs. Abigail Ojo, called on security agencies to find lasting solutions to their problems.

The traditional ruler, Oba Adebori, assured the women that the security situation was being handled by relevant agencies and pleaded for time to allow them to find a solution.

The protest highlights the growing concern about insecurity and violence in the state, and the need for urgent action to protect lives and livelihoods.
