The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said that his administration would continue to appreciate and support Nigeria’s fallen heroes, with a promise to aid the day to day operation of the legion in the State. Governor Abiodun while speaking in his office at Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, during the launch of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem, commended men and women, who had meritoriously served and are still serving the country, noting that their service has continued to ensure the territorial integrity of the nation.
“I want to affirm and promise that, on behalf of the government and people of Ogun State, whatever it is that we need to do to give the needed support for these heroes, for their bravery, we will continue to do it. I want to confirm to you that, we will provide you with a bus, a patrol van and motorbikes, on behalf of the government and the good people of Ogun State.
“It could not be a bad thing for someone to have volunteered to serve his nation. I want to thank you for this painful reminder. Moment like this is essential for sober reflection on the pains and laments of a soldier’s wife. This is going to be etched in my mind and I want to enjoin all of us to also do same, so that each time, we see a soldier, we can better appreciate what they have signed up for”, he said.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, Nigeria Legion, Ogun State, Comrade Taofeek Oloyede, appreciated the government for its support, saying that the Remembrance Day gives the nation an opportunity to remember the gallant officers that died while protecting the territorial integrity of the nation.
He said the Nigeria Legion, which was established by an act of parliament, no 18 of 1964 and no 25 of 1977, both of which had been replaced by decree no 37 of 1988, was established with the responsibility of promoting the welfare of Ex service men and women.
