The Department of State Services (DSS) has been accused of arresting Dr. Abubakar Alkali, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Petroleum & Gas Engineering, Baze University, Abuja, for allegedly supporting the recent #EndBadGovernance protest, which swept parts of the country in August.

Recall that the 10-day nationwide anti-hunger and hardship protest, which later evolved into the #EndBadGovernance Movement, took place from August 1 to 10. While some protesters were allowed to demonstrate peacefully, security operatives cracked down on protests in other regions, leading to multiple arrests and court arraignments.

On Saturday, Abuja-based lawyer Barrister Deji Adeyanju claimed that Dr. Alkali was abducted by DSS operatives three weeks ago and transported to Sokoto State due to his support for the protest. “He has been in custody since then,” Adeyanju stated in a message sent to our correspondent on Saturday night.

Efforts to get confirmation from the DSS were unsuccessful, as a text message sent to their hotline went unanswered. The DSS has no official spokesperson at the moment.
