Sports have been described as a vital enabler of sustainable development and a compelling tool to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding, bringing people together across boundaries, cultures, and religions with its values such as teamwork, fairness, discipline, and respect in the advancement of the society.
The President of Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, Aare (Asiwaju) Dapo Wahab made this known on Saturday while speaking at the 3rd Biennial Inter House Sports competition of Kingfisher Private School in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Asiwaju Dapo Wahab who was named after a house, stressed further that pupils and students needs to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship, resilience and endurance for a sustainable society,
Asiwaju Dapo Wahab however commended the school for bringing out the best out of the young leaders of tomorrow, stressing that children can get a lot from sporting activities if exposed to it in their early years.
While assuring the school of his continuous supports and contributions, thanked the school management for the honour bestowed on the foundation and promised to reciprocate it as an act of partners in progress.
” On 3rd of March, The President of Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, Aare (Asiwaju) Dapo Wahab wasnamed after a house at the 3rd Biennial Inter house sport of KINGFISHER PRIVATE SCHOOLS, the event which took place at Afro Grams , Ita – Eko , Abeokuta, Ogun state: Asiwaju Dapo Wahab House ( EMERALD). The 2023 edition of the Inter house sport is tagged: THE WINNING WAYS. The event was graced by the creme de la creme of the society”.
“In my short speech, I talked to the pupils and students about the aim and objective of the competition as is not about who came First or who came last, but to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship, resilience and endurance into pupils / students’ mindset for a sustainable society”.
“I stressed that the Loser focuses on the Winner while the Winner focuses on winning’.
“I also thanked the school management on behalf of Asiwaju Dapo Wahab foundation for the honour bestowed on him for a competing house to be named after him”.
“I however promised to reciprocate it as an act of partner in progress and he wished the school greater years of celebration”, he added.
