The League of seven Registered Political Parties in Ogun State led by the trio of Moshood Adesina, Otunba Adebayo Mosuro and Hon. Segun Taiwo at the weekend successfully filed a motion to join the yet to be decided case of 2019 Governorship Election Petition before Justice Halilu Yusuf tribunal panel.
According to the copy of the filed motion made available to the newsmen in Abeokuta, seven 2019 Governorship Candidates under the forum of the League of Registered Political Parties sought the Leave of the Tribunal to be included as interested Party.
Although, the tribunal has reserved judgement in a petition number EPT/OG/GOV/01/2019 filed by Adekunle Akinlade and Allied People’s Movement challenging the victory of APC governorship candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun, but the candidates and the political parties that participated in the March 9th Governorship Election strongly believe that the decision of the Tribunal will affect them as critical stakeholders.
The affidavit of support was deposed by Otunba Adebayo Atanda Mosuro of Independent Democrats on behalf of other Governorship Candidates that contested the 2019 Governorship Election in Ogun State.
According to the parties, they joined the suit guide the tribunal against miscarriage of justice and to ensure that all parties were given fair-hearing.
Speaking on the late submission of application to the suit, Mr. Moshood Adesina of the Mega Party said, the parties have exploited many out of court settlement approach with the appellants to allow the elected governor focus on giving the electorate dividends of democracy.
He said since the petitioners have refused to withdraw the petition from the tribunal, the registered political parties decided to resort to legal means of seeking judgement.
Meanwhile, the tribunal chairman, Justice Halilu Yusuf said the date of the judgement would be communicated to the lead counsels of the petitioners and respondents.
