Following the demise of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, at the age of 81 on Thursday, March 14, 2024, his burial according to Islamic customs is scheduled for today, Friday, March 15, 2024, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Traditionally, the Olubadan title alternates between the Olubadan line (civil line) and the Balogun line (military line). Oba Balogun, who served for two years, is among those with the shortest reigns in history.

A compilation from Olubadan.com lists notable Olubadans with the shortest reigns:

– One month: Olubadan Oyetunde I Eleta (November 1946 – December 1946).
– Three months: Olubadan Memudu Alli Iwo Gbenla (1942).
– Six months: Olubadan Fagbinrin Akere II Oritamerin (1946).
– Six months: Oba Yesufu Kobiowu Oranyan.
– One year: Baale Oderinlo Opeagbe Idiomo/Kure (1850 – 1851).
– One year: Ba’ale Ibikunle (1864 – 1865).
– One year: Baale Orowusi (Awarun) Kobomoje (1870 – 1871).
– One year: Olubadan Akintunde Bioku Oleyo, Oranyan (1947 – 1948).
– One year: Oba Gbadamosi Akanbi Adebimpe Odinjo (1976 – 1977).
– Two years: Basorun Ogumola Mapo (1865 – 1867).

The longest-serving Olubadan remains Olubadan Okunola Abaasi Alesinloye Isale Ijebu, who reigned for 16 years, from 1930 to 1946.
