The House of Representatives has confirmed Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.

This confirmation was made during the plenary session on Thursday, following the adoption of a report by the House Ad-hoc Committee on Confirmation and Screening for the Acting Chief of Army Staff.

Presenting the committee’s findings, its Chairman, Hon. Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos), stated that Oluyede had successfully undergone a rigorous screening process.

“The Ad-hoc Committee carefully and thoroughly engaged with the nominee for the position of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, and was satisfied with his academic and professional qualifications, exposure, conduct, character, experience, and general performance,” the report highlighted.

Lieutenant General Oluyede appeared before the Joint Ad-hoc Committee on Defence and Army for screening on Wednesday. During the session, he assured the lawmakers of his commitment to fostering peace across the nation.

The committee’s report emphasized his extensive knowledge and expertise. “The Ad-hoc Committee also observed that the nominee displayed wide and in-depth knowledge of strategies, tactics, and military operations as exhibited during his acting capacity,” the report noted.

It further recommended his confirmation, stating, “Consequently, the Ad-hoc Committee hereby recommends that Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede be confirmed as the Chief of Army Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, having successfully undergone the screening process of the Ad-hoc Committee.”

After presenting the committee’s recommendations, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who chaired the Committee of the Whole, subjected the report to a voice vote. The recommendation was overwhelmingly approved by the lawmakers.

When the House reverted to plenary, presided over by Deputy Speaker Kalu, the report of the Committee of the Whole was adopted, thereby confirming Lieutenant General Oluyede’s appointment as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.
