A veteran broadcaster and general manager of the Nigerian television authority (NTA) 12 Abeokuta, Mrs Funmi Wakama has attributed poor parenting to the high level of moral decadence in Nigeria.
Speaking as Guest Lecturer at the 21st Valedictory Service and Graduation Ceremony for class 2019 of Taidob College Asero Estate Abeokuta held at the College auditorium, Mrs Wakama admonished parents and guardians to build positive values in their children for a better tomorrow.
Earlier, the Special Guest of Honour and Auditor General for Local Governments, Lagos State, Mrs. Idayat Abolarin harped on the need for the students to justify the investment of their parents by being good ambassadors.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Felix Kolawole Salako who chaired the occasion commended Taidob College for producing sound minds who make exploits in different tertiary institutions, advising parents to complement the efforts of the school.
The southwest coordinator of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Reuben Oke had in a sermon charged parents to teach their children the way of the Lord.
In their separate annual reports, the Principal, Mrs. Hope Jiboku and Director, Mr. Obawunmi Jiboku reaffirmed the commitment of the College to providing infrastructure, football academy and diversification to entrepreneurship and agriculture. He also revealed that the College won different laurels, outstanding in WASSCE and UTME, with the school producing Olowu Isaac Olamilekan, the best candidate in the southwest and 3rd overall in Nigeria in the 2019 UTME.
A total of 114 students graduated from the college with the best graduating student, Olaniyan Edward recording eight A1s in the just released WASSCE result.
The event was attended by officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Former Director-General, Mathematical Centre Abuja Prof. A. R. T. Solarin, Rector of Igbajo Polytechnic Osun State, Dr. Funmilayo Odejide, fellows of Taidob College, parents, old students among other dignitaries while prizes and awards were presented to the outstanding students including the best graduating student in 2018, Oluwatosin Ajibola who scored 349 in UTME and distinctions in all subjects he sat for in 2018 WASSCE, and now a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Ibadan.
However, in memory and contribution of the Proprietor of the College, Prof. Abayomi Jiboku to humanity and teaching of Chemistry, a former Assistant Director at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASSA), Mr. Julius Olufemi Ajibawo awarded the best chemistry students in SS1, Adesodun Johnson Kayode; SS2, Falayi David Oluwasina; and the best graduating student, Olaniyan Edward Oladimeji.
Special stage performances including choir renditions, cultural display and the mimicking of the late proprietor by one of the tutors, Mr. Kunle Ayeni added glitz and glamour to the event.
