In an extensive nationwide operation, the Nigeria Police Force apprehended no fewer than 1,246 suspects in October.
According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the arrests include 371 individuals held on charges of armed robbery, 186 for kidnapping, 242 for murder or homicide, and 217 for rape, with 167 suspected cult members also detained.
Adejobi revealed that police efforts led to the recovery of 210 firearms and 3,172 rounds of ammunition of various calibres over the course of the month.
He highlighted the arrest of a significant arms dealer in Plateau State, identified as Jubril Musa, who allegedly confessed to supplying weapons to bandits and kidnappers in the region.
“The Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides in the fight against violent crime since October 1, 2024,”
Adejobi said. “We recorded the arrest of 371 armed robbery suspects, 186 kidnapping suspects, and other major crime-related arrests, alongside the recovery of 210 firearms and 3,172 rounds of ammunition.”
In addition to Musa’s apprehension, police seized a range of illegal weapons, including a Makarov pistol, a fabricated pistol, and rounds of 7.62mm and 9mm live ammunition, which Musa reportedly supplied to criminal groups.
Adejobi conveyed the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s commitment to public safety.
