The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Oyo State chapter, has called off its two-month indefinite strike.

Dr. Samuel Adeyemi, the union chairman, announced the suspension on Tuesday in Ibadan.

The strike, which began on May 21, had severely impacted patients in state government-owned hospitals and health centers due to the absence of nurses and midwives.

The union’s demands included the urgent recruitment of new nurses and midwives, correction of the erroneous promotion dates on members’ letters from 2017/2018, implementation of career progression for nurses, and payment of withheld 2011 salary arrears, which had been paid to other workers.

Adeyemi explained that the strike was suspended for one month due to the state government’s commitment to address these issues.

He expressed hope that the government would continue working to fulfill the remaining demands.

“As a result, all our members statewide are instructed to resume their duties from Wednesday. We remain hopeful that the government will continue its efforts to meet our demands,” Adeyemi said.
