Ogun Women Affairs Ministry Reconciles 668 Family Cases In Six Months

In her quest to achieve a more orderly society, through promotion of harmony in family units and reduction in juvenile delinquency, the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development says it has reconciled 98 estranged couples with 668 family cases successfully handled by the Social Development Area Offices domiciled in the twenty Local Government Areas in the State.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Funmi Efuwape said this at the on going 2020 budget assessment session before the members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development led Hon. Sikirat Ajibola.

Efuwape in company of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo, stated that the ministry had continued to promote gender equality through empowerment facilities for socioeconomic development, trained 150 women and youth on four different vocations, including catering and decorations, hairdressing as well as fashion designing amongst others during the 2019/2020 skill acquisition training programmes within the period under review .

She added that the Ministry was putting together strategies towards designing a training programme for teachers on Child Safeguard and Protection Policy, with a view to identifying children/ pupils going through abuse for proper rehabilitation and protection.

Efuwape noted that a total of 253 rehabilitated destitute, beggars and vagrant lunatics were reunited with their relatives and families.

In their various remarks, the State lawmakers commended the management of the Ministry for its commitment to promoting a peaceful society, enjoining them to do more of community outreach, sensitization and other link up for those undergoing challenges and other gender based violence for neccessary intervention. They noted that there was need to ensure a more severe punishment for gender based violence offenders.

Also, the Rector of Gateway Institute of Technology Igbesa, Dr. Funke Akikurolere and the Ag. Rector, D. S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Kehinde Job-Olatunji, had the budget performance of their institutions appraised by the members of the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology led by Hon Adeyemi Ademuyiwa.
