Cult-related violence has resurfaced in Ogun State, causing fear among residents in Abeokuta.

A suspected leader of the Eiye confraternity, known as Oloba (Dare), was fatally shot by a rival cult group in the Ijeja area of Abeokuta.

This unsettling development comes after cultism posed a significant threat to the state in 2023, leading to multiple casualties in various areas, particularly Sagamu and Abeokuta.

Tragically, Oloba was targeted in a well-planned operation outside his residence on Thursday night.

The violence continued as another suspected cultist, Tayo Alora, was murdered in the Isabo area on Sunday morning.

Witnesses revealed that Alora was seemingly trailed and ambushed without any prior confrontation.

Expressing concern, a resident emphasized the urgency for government intervention to prevent further escalation.

Eyewitnesses, who fled as assailants fired shots, spoke anonymously, describing Oloba’s execution as a meticulously planned operation around 11:00 pm on Thursday.

Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incidents. She assured the public that a discreet investigation is underway, and vowed to apprehend all those involved in the violent acts.

However, further details are pending as the police spokesperson promised to provide additional information in a follow-up call.
