Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has assured residents of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area that his administration will firmly protect all state territories, pledging that no part of Ogun will be ceded to neighboring states.

Abiodun gave this reassurance during a meeting on Friday with key representatives from the local government, including traditional rulers, technocrats, and prominent officials, at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The governor addressed concerns raised about alleged encroachments on Ogun land by bordering states, stating his commitment to resolving any territorial disputes and maintaining Ogun’s territorial integrity.

“Because of reports of incursions from Lagos and Ondo states on Ode-Omi and Makun to seize parts of our land, the governor has promised that he will ensure that not an inch of Ogun State is lost to any other state,” explained Prof. Segun Awonusi, a former Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, who attended the meeting.

Awonusi also conveyed the gratitude of the Ogun Waterside community for the governor’s efforts so far, while urging him to continue supporting the region.

“We appreciate him for what he has done so far, and we urge him to do more,” he added, expressing the community’s trust in the governor’s resolve to address their security concerns.

In addition to securing Ogun’s borders, Governor Abiodun committed to reinforcing peace and security measures across Ogun Waterside, emphasizing that “adequate security will be provided so that our people can live in peace.”

This assurance comes as local communities voice concerns over safety due to recent incidents of encroachment.

Furthermore, Abdul Balogun, former Commissioner for Environment, highlighted the governor’s pledge to prioritize infrastructural developments within the local government.

Balogun reported that the governor has committed to the immediate rehabilitation of the Dau-Ibiade-Abigi-Efire-Makun-Ilisin road, as well as to restoring electricity supply to parts of Ogun Waterside that have been without power for three years.
