The Ogun State House of Assembly has joined other concerned Nigerians in appealing to the youth to maintain peace and tranquility in the state and nation.
Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide made this plea in response to concerns about a planned protest raised by Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye during a plenary session at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta.
Elemide encouraged the youth to engage in meaningful dialogue with the government, particularly regarding the high inflation rate affecting everyone.
He acknowledged the youth’s right to peaceful protest but emphasized the importance of respecting others’ rights and avoiding violence.
Other lawmakers, including Adeleye and Hon. Damilare Bello, cautioned that protests must be conducted within the law and without violence.
They stressed that while the youth have the right to lawful protest, other citizens also have the right to peaceful movement, which should not be hindered by protests.
The lawmakers advised political leaders to work with security agencies and youth groups to promote peace and tranquility in the state.
They recognized that the current challenges facing the nation, including inflation and hunger, are global issues being addressed by governments at all levels.
