The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution formally recognizing the Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organization (ROMO) as an affiliate of the Motorcycle Operators’ Union of Nigeria (MOUN).

This move is part of broader efforts to enhance the operations and governance of the transportation sector within the State.

The resolution was passed after the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Transportation, led by Hon. Wasiu Ayodele, during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Following the presentation, Hon. Ayodele moved for the report’s adoption, seconded by Hon. Seun Adesanya, and supported by the entire House through a unanimous voice vote.

In a further step, the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sherif, motioned for the recommendations of the Committee to be converted into a formal resolution.

This was seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, and once again received unanimous support from the lawmakers.

The report, in part, stated:

“We, your Committee on Transportation, met and discussed the request of the Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organisation (ROMO), Ogun State, which notified the House about its new status as an affiliate of the Motorcycle Operators’ Union of Nigeria (MOUN)”

“ROMO seeks legislative backing and recognition to work closely with MOUN in advocating for the rights and interests of its members at the national level.”

It further noted that the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) is a registered trade union under the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, with a mandate to represent all individuals engaged in commercial motorcycle operations across the country, as provided for by the Trade Union Act CAP T.14 of 2004.

The Committee, having reviewed all relevant documentation and conducted thorough due diligence, concluded that ROMO stands to benefit from various government initiatives aimed at empowering its members by joining the larger union.

The Committee recommended that the House pass a motion to this effect and communicate the decision to relevant State and Federal agencies, as well as the general public, to ensure that ROMO is granted due recognition as an official affiliate of MOUN.
