The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has distanced itself from a viral video showing an unidentified individual pouring a dark liquid he alleged to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), supposedly purchased from an NNPC Retail outlet in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
The company, in a statement issued on Thursday, expressed concern over the misleading claims.
Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited, addressed the issue in Abuja, asserting that the claims in the video are unfounded.
“The attention of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has been drawn to the video clip of someone pouring a dark liquid which he claims to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) purportedly bought from an NNPC Retail outlet at Keffi Flyover,” Soneye stated, emphasizing that the substance shown could not have come from any NNPC outlet.
Soneye disclosed that spot checks were conducted at all NNPC stations nationwide, and the findings confirmed that the claim was untrue.
He reiterated, “We have carried out spot checks at all our outlets and found this claim to be false. The product was not, and could not have been bought from any NNPC Retail outlet as the company does not dispense petroleum products into bottles or jerrycans as displayed in the video.”
The company assured the public of its stringent quality controls, highlighting that NNPC Retail Ltd strictly adheres to rigorous standards to prevent the distribution of adulterated products.
“NNPC Retail Ltd does not deal in adulterated products as it adheres to rigorous standards and quality control measures at every stage in its operations to ensure that only high-quality, safe, and reliable petroleum products are available at its stations nationwide,” Soneye remarked.
NNPCL also urged the public to disregard the “spurious claims” in the video, warning that individuals spreading such narratives are “selfish and unpatriotic” with no good intentions for the country.
The company emphasized that it maintains accurate pump integrity with regular inspections and calibrations across its outlets.
