Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has urged Nigerians to continue spreading messages of hope, love, and forgiveness, especially during periods of strife and division.

Governor Abiodun made the call during the Special Jumat Service held to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration at the Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta.

Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Abiodun emphasized the importance of collective faith in God and unwavering hope for a brighter future, which have contributed to Nigeria’s resilience.

“As we gather across the country to celebrate with this special Jumat service, it is crucial to reflect on how far we have come as a nation and, more importantly, how much more we can achieve by aligning our efforts with the principles of peace, unity, and justice, values deeply embedded in Islam,” Abiodun said.

He noted that the Special Jumat service provided an opportunity to express gratitude for the nation’s progress and to seek divine intervention for the challenges still faced by the country.

Abiodun highlighted his administration’s achievements in Ogun State, including significant strides in infrastructural development, improved security, and food initiatives, which have empowered farmers and improved agricultural productivity.

The governor also emphasized his administration’s focus on job creation through various empowerment programs and industrialization efforts, providing employment opportunities for youths.

“These accomplishments demonstrate our commitment to ensuring Ogun State remains a vital player in Nigeria’s journey towards sustainable growth and national prosperity,” Abiodun stressed.

In his sermon, Mufasir of Egbaland Alhaji Taofeek Amolegbe attributed Nigeria’s major challenge to insecurity and called for peaceful coexistence, love, and unity among Nigerians.

Amolegbe urged leaders and citizens to reflect on the national anthem’s words: “in brotherhood we stand” and “let truth and justice reign.”

Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, and Oba Babatunde Ajayi, the Akarigbo of Remoland, congratulated the state and national governments on the 64th Independence Day celebration.

They acknowledged the efforts of heroes who fought for Nigeria’s independence and urged the government to continue its contribution to nation-building and initiate policies alleviating citizens’ suffering.
