Mrs Abdulmalik Adenike of NDLEA has dissuaded corps members from abusing drugs.
During the morning lecture for Platoons 1 to 5 members of the 2019 Batch C stream I orientation, Adenike highlighted the meaning and dangers of drug abuse.
She said, “Drug is abused when not medically necessary and recommended by a pharmacist.”
The effect of hard drugs such as marijuana and cocaine among others were described as killing substances which are dangerous to human health. She also mentioned alcohol and cigarettes as socially acceptable drugs but which also have adverse effects on its users especially when abused.
Giving reasons as why people used drugs, Adenike said “People use drugs to fit in, to escape or relax and also as a temporary escape route from their problems.”
She said drug addicts can be helped if encouraged to confide in a person who help them out of their addictions like the NDLEA.
