The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Civic Engagement, Princess Aderemi Adebowale has reiterated the commitment of the present administration to providing a quality work environment for its staff as the State joins the World in celebrating the 2019 Global Decent Day.
Princess Adebowale disclosed this while addressing members of the Organised Labour Union who came to the Lagos State House of Assembly to mark the day and present their request to the government.
She said the welfare of staff was given priority by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on assumption of office with the release of 35 brand new buses to the fleet of Central Bus Service Scheme for Public Servants to replace the old and rickety vehicles which conveyed staff.
“This has impacted immensely on the morale of the workforce as well as enhanced productivity. The State government is also looking into the crisis in the educational institutions with a bid to ensuring peace prevails on the campuses”, she added.
Adebowale maintained that the labour movement is an important organisation and its cooperation will always be sought in the development of the State, pointing out that government engages in periodic dialogue with the Union through the Office of Civic Engagement and other agencies to ensure industrial harmony in the State.
Earlier, the Labour Unions comprising of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) led by the Chairperson of NLC, Comrade, Agbes Funmi Sessi appealed to the State Government to improve the work environment of workers.
He also solicited that activities of the private sector, particularly in the manufacturing sector, relating to under-age employment, staff casualisation and inhuman work environment should be checkmated through relevant government Ministries, Department and Agencies.
