A violent confrontation between rival groups at the bustling Ile-Epo foodstuff market in Alimosho, Lagos, was brought under control by swift police action, resulting in the arrest of over 50 individuals.
The clash, which erupted on Wednesday night and spilled into Thursday morning, left several stalls in ruins and goods destroyed.
In a decisive move, the Lagos State Police Command deployed a team led by the DPO Oke-Odo to quell the violence and restore peace to the market.
The operation was successful, with over 50 suspects taken into custody and their makeshift shelters demolished.
According to police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, normalcy has been restored to the market, and the Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has directed the prompt prosecution of those arrested.
The police have issued a stern warning to anyone contemplating further violence, vowing to deal decisively with any breaches of the peace.
