Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the newly elected Governor of Edo State, vowing to strengthen ties between the two neighboring APC-led administrations.

In a statement issued Monday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo commended Okpebholo on his victory and praised the resilience of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in reclaiming the governorship in Edo State.

The Kogi governor, who played a pivotal role in securing APC’s victory in Akoko-Edo with a total of 34,847 votes, the party’s highest return from any local government in the state, lauded the peaceful and orderly conduct of Edo citizens during the election.

He expressed appreciation for their commitment to the APC and its candidate, which he said was demonstrated by their turnout at the polls.

Ododo also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and law enforcement agencies for ensuring the election was conducted with professionalism and maintaining law and order throughout the process.

He highlighted the peaceful atmosphere during the election as a sign of progress for Nigeria’s democracy.

“Governor Ododo reiterated the commitment of the APC and the Governor-elect to prioritize the welfare of the people and ensure that every segment of the state is carried along in the development process, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.

In his message, Governor Ododo reaffirmed his intent to strengthen the socio-economic, cultural, and developmental ties between Kogi and Edo, neighboring states with shared histories and interests.

He concluded by offering prayers for wisdom and guidance for Governor-elect Okpebholo as he leads Edo into a new era of development.

Senator Monday Okpebholo was declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election on Sunday by INEC, having secured 291,667 votes.

His closest contender, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), trailed with 247,274 votes in what was described as a fiercely competitive election.
