Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has proudly stated that his state is emerging as Nigeria’s economic powerhouse through deliberate policies aimed at local development initiatives, while also supporting federal government strategies for national growth.

This was revealed during his speech on Tuesday at the Arcade Ground, State Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.

Governor Abiodun emphasized the necessity for Nigerians to recommit to building an egalitarian society, one where every individual has the chance to reach their full potential.

He noted, “On this 64th Independence Day, let us draw strength from the labours of our founding fathers. Let us reflect on the past, learn from it, and recommit ourselves to building a society where every Nigerian has the opportunity to fulfill their potential.”

Acknowledging the nation’s current economic struggles, Governor Abiodun stated, “Today, Nigeria faces turbulent economic times. Global economic pressures, coupled with domestic challenges, have placed significant strain on our resources. Rising inflation, unemployment, and the cost of living have impacted the lives of many, creating anxiety about the future. These challenges are real and urgent, requiring immediate and sustained action.”

In his speech, the governor also assured that the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were geared towards long-term stability and growth, encouraging Nigerians to remain united and patient.

“We must remain united, support one another, and be patient as we work together to navigate this journey. The President’s economic policies are designed to foster long-term stability and sustainable growth, and they require our collective commitment and sacrifice from all of us,” he urged.

Further addressing the socio-economic landscape, Governor Abiodun remarked, “As an administration, we recognize the gravity of the socio-economic situation in Nigeria today. It is the result of years of complex issues—misguided policies, leadership failures, and poor governance. However, I want to reassure you that the current administration, ably led by our indomitable leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), is fully aware of these challenges and is deeply committed to reversing this trajectory.”

Highlighting the state’s achievements over the past five years, Governor Abiodun shared that Ogun State had made significant progress in areas such as agriculture, energy, and transportation, while also promoting food security, job creation, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These advancements, he said, have positioned the state as a rising economic force in Nigeria.

“Additionally, our investment in educational infrastructure, vocational training, and youth empowerment programs continues to equip our young people with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive in this economic climate,” he added.

Under the ‘ISEYA’ mantra, the governor explained that his administration’s development plan remains focused on critical areas, including infrastructure, social welfare, education, youth empowerment, and agriculture. This, he said, would further elevate Ogun State as an economic powerhouse in Nigeria.

He further disclosed that Gateway Trading Company would soon commence operations across the state, offering a variety of food items at wholesale prices, reinforcing his commitment to improving the state’s economic well-being.

In closing, Governor Abiodun reiterated his call for Nigerians to return to the values of hard work, honesty, justice, and respect for authority, urging that these virtues would guide the nation towards continued peace, progress, and development.

The event saw the presence of several dignitaries, including the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide; members of the National and State Assemblies; former governors and deputy governors; top government functionaries; APC leaders; and security chiefs, among others.
