Two individuals are feared to have drowned after severe flooding hit various parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, following a heavy downpour on Tuesday.
Bystanders managed to pull the unidentified victims from the water and transported them to Adeoyo General Hospital, Ring Road.
The floods caused widespread disruption, inundating vehicles, homes, businesses, and bridges, leaving many parts of the city submerged.
The heavy rain also triggered major traffic congestion across the metropolis, making movement difficult for residents.
Several key areas, including Joyce B, Mobil area on Ring Road, Odo-Ona Elewe, Odo Ona Kekere, Oke-Ado, Mokola Roundabout, Agodi Garden, Sango, Bembo, and Fodacis, were particularly affected by the floodwaters.
The traffic situation was compounded in routes leading to Apata, Omi-Adio, Challenge, Molete, Oke Ado, and Sango, forcing many commuters to walk long distances as the availability of commercial transport dwindled.
As the rains persisted, many people were forced to take shelter in safer locations until the floodwaters receded and conditions improved enough for them to return home.
The flooding has highlighted concerns over Ibadan’s vulnerability to heavy rains, as the city braces for more rainfall in the coming weeks.
