The governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has asked Nigerians to always remember military officers who died in active service as heroes, whose families should be supported always.
This charge was given today at an event to commemorate the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration, held at the Arcade Ground, Oke – Mosan, Abeokuta.
The governor who was represented at the event by his Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako – Oyedele called on all Nigerians to embrace team – spirit, brotherliness and compassion for our fellow beings.
He urged Nigerians to shun all calls for division, insecurity, banditry, all inter-ethnic, religious and politically motivated wrangling.
He encouraged the use of democratic establishments in the processes of seeking redress, bearing in mind that whatever Peace cannot achieve, War is not likely to achieve either
“As we gather to celebrate those heroes of our Nation, we must appreciate that they sacrificed their yesterday to give us today.
“We owe the repayment to give our today to offer a better tomorrow. By doing that, we are “Building our Future Together”. He said
Abiodun, while sympathizing with the families of the departed heroes, prayed God will continue to grant them eternal repose, calling for collective efforts in rebuilding the confidence and trust in our system, in order to bequeath a nation that is free of troubles and woes to our children.
Gov Abiodun appreciated the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their invaluable contributions to the security and sustenance of peace, appealing to well meaning individuals, corporate bodies and organizations to rise up to the challenge of giving support towards caring for the injured and the families of the fallen heroes by donating generously.
Highlights of the events was laying of wreaths, by the Governor, Monarchs, Service chiefs and a representative of the widows of fallen heroes, while special prayers for the nation, state and families of the fallen heroes, including gun salutes, inspection of Guard and release of pigeons was also done.
