Fatal Crash in Ogun: Two Lives Lost as Drunk Driver Collides with Bus

Tragedy struck along the Ota-Idiroko expressway in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State as a drunk truck driver collided with a bus, resulting in the deaths of the bus driver and his assistant.

The incident occurred at Castinjo/Ola bus stop along the highway, according to reports from our correspondent.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, confirmed the unfortunate event to the press in Abeokuta.

Eyewitnesses reported that the speeding truck driver lost control and crashed into the bus traveling towards Ota, instantly claiming the lives of the bus driver and his assistant.

The driver and his assistant reportedly fled the scene after the collision.

TRACE has since cleared the wreckage from the road, and the deceased have been taken to Ifo General Hospital.

The statement partly reads “According to eyewitness accounts, the MAN Diesel truck with no number plate was driving inbound Idiroko from Ota when the driver, due to drunk-driving and excessive speed, lost control and rammed into the bus driving in the opposite direction from Idiroko to Ota.

“The driver of the bus and the motor boy died on the spot due to impact of the collision while the drunk driver of the truck and its motor boy ran away.

“The accidented vehicles (Truck and Bus) has been evacuated from the road to Onipanu Divisional Police Station, Ota, while the bodies of the dead had been deposited at Ifo General Hospital Morgue.”
