The Nigerian Baptist Convention at the weekend donated food items that worth millions of Naira to the Osun state Government to cushion the effect of the total lockdown of the state occasioned by Coronavirus pandemic.
Presenting the food items to the state government on Saturday, the National President of Nigerian Baptist Convention who doubles as the National President Of the Christian Association of Nigeria Reverend Dr. Olasupo Ayokunle said the step is a way of supporting the palliative measures by the government to bring relief and fight the hunger that would confront some people of the state as a result of the stay-at-home order.
Reverend Dr. Ayokunle who was represented by the Director, Social Ministries Department of the Nigerian Baptist Convention Reverend Dr. Mrs Titi Eniola said as a Christian body, the decision is in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ to help the poor in a time of need
He said that coronavirus epidemic and how is currently ravaging the entire world is a serious issue as it has rendered many people especially the poor helpless economically due to the total lockdown in many places and how to survive for majority of them is now a concern.
” We wish to identify with the palliative measures the government is providing by presenting these items for the relief of the most vulnerable members of the public in your state to ease the pain that they may be encountering during the stay-at-home and the lockdown as a result of the pandemic”, Rev. Dr Olasupo added.
Some of the food items donated to the state government by the Nigerian Baptist Convention include 25 bags of rice, 40 bags of 10kg of Semovita, 20 cartoons of groundnut oil, 10 bags of beans and 100 tubers of yam.
