An incident occurred at the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara, Okene, Kogi State, on Thursday night.
Armed individuals entered the campus and abducted an unspecified number of students. The students were preparing for their first-semester examination scheduled for May 13.
Security sources reported that the gunmen shot into the air, causing panic, before taking the students away. The state government has confirmed the incident and is working to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students.
According to the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, nine students have been reported missing so far.
The government has activated its security architecture to track the kidnappers and rescue the students. Local hunters and conventional security agents are currently combing the area to ensure the safe rescue of the students.
This incident adds to the growing concern about security in the country, particularly in educational institutions. Since 2014, over 1,400 students have been kidnapped from Nigerian schools.
The government has repeatedly assured citizens of its commitment to addressing the issue, but the problem persists.
