The Oyo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency has commissioned borehole project for the use of residents in Alugbo Oluwo area of Erunmu Community, Egbeda Local, Government, Ibadan.
The borehole project was built and donated by Latter Day Saint Charities in collaboration with Oyo State Government. The water project would deliver about 10, 000 litres of water to the area per day.
Commissioning the project yesterday, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, represented by the Director General, Oyo State Liason Office, Abuja, Honourable Busari Olayemi stated that the water project was part of the dividend of Public Private Partnership in the State, which the State Government heartily embraces.
While he appreciated the Latter-Day Saint Charities for its benevolence and support to Oyo State and its water sector, he charged the community to put the borehole to effective use and prevent wastage.
He noted that the project would help Erunmu Community to engage in sustainable vegetable crop and livestock farming, resulting in increased agricultural productivity at the community level.
“This is part of LDS contributions to provide quality access to consumption of potable water in our rural communities, which we do appreciate”, he said.
He also enjoined the residents to take good care of the facility and called on corporate bodies to emulate Latter-Day Saint Charities in reaching out to communities in the State, saying Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde is determined to extend such gestures to remote communities in Oyo State.
In his remarks, the Chairman Oyo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Engineer Najeem Omirinde stated that the State government’s policy is geared towards ending open defecation by 2025, adding that Governor Makinde is keenly interested in giving water to rural communities.
He further enjoined donor agencies, like LDS charities to join hands with the government in extending the provision of potable water to motor-parks and markets in Oyo State, adding that it is imperative to complement the efforts of the state government in ending open defecation in the State by 2025.
While addressing the gathering, the Church Leader and President of the Latter- Day Saints Charities, President Peter Olubukola Apantaku said they aim to assist Governor Makinde’s Government to alleviate poor water conditions in the State and fulfil the people’s needs.
He therefore charged the beneficiaries to ensure sanity and cleanliness around the water facility so as to prevent outbreak of diseases.
Earlier, in his remarks the Program Coordinator, Latter Day Saints Charities, Bishop Christopher Onwumah informed the gathering that the water project is about improving lives through quality water supply.
He further gave the assurance, that the NGO would cater for the maintenance of the facility for the next six months, adding that the borehole was financed by LDS charities with the use of world class, quality equipment.
