Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated his confidence in Nigeria’s economic progress despite the challenges confronting the nation.
He attributed this optimism to the policies and determination of President Bola Tinubu to drive economic transformation for all Nigerians.
Shettima highlighted the country’s recent achievements, particularly the increase in crude oil production, which has now reached 1.8 million barrels per day.
Speaking at a one-day retreat for presidential aides and unit heads in his office on Saturday in Abuja, the Vice President assured attendees of the government’s commitment to economic growth.
In his remarks, conveyed through a statement by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima said:
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to change the fortunes of the nation. We all want to bequeath to the younger generation a united and progressive country. Yes, the economy has and is experiencing challenges, but we have turned the corner. As of now, we are producing 1.8 million barrels of oil per day. The economy is on an upward trajectory, and I believe in the new year, the economy will grow in leaps and bounds.”
The Vice President also called for increased collaboration among aides in the presidency, emphasizing the importance of unity in achieving the administration’s goals. He said, “The country is greater than all of us. I urge you, let’s work as a team and as a family.”
Emphasis on Synergy and Strategic Planning
Earlier in his welcome address, Senator Hassan Hadejia, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), explained that the retreat aimed to foster collaboration and streamline tasks within the Vice President’s office. According to him, the retreat focused on enhancing strategic communication, improving project funding and partnerships, and boosting cooperation with ministries, departments, and agencies.
Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, praised the efforts of the Vice President’s aides, particularly in strategic communication. He stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration across the presidency to deliver on key mandates.
Similarly, Dr. Aliyu Moddibo Umar, the Special Adviser to the President on General Duties, urged participants to leverage their expertise and focus on their responsibilities. He said, “We need to deliver on the difficult task ahead. The primary thing is just the work.”
Other notable attendees at the retreat included the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Mr. Olufunso Adebiyi; Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Mr. Tope Fasua; and senior aides, directors, and deputy directors in the Vice President’s office.
