Ogun State House of Assembly has called on the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr.Bashir Makama to ensure immediate prosecution of suspected criminals recently arrested in various troubles spots across the State.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo made the call while responding to the submission of a member representing Odogbolu State Constituency, Atinuke Bello, who commended the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the Commissioner of Police for their swift response to security challenges in her Constituency during the Assembly’s plenary held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Oluomo explained that such step would serve as deterrent to other potential criminals, thanking the State Police Command for being proactive in response to distress calls in recent time, especially on issues of kidnapping and cultism in Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu, Sagamu and Ode Omi amongst others.
Earlier in their separate submissions, Hon. Bello commended the men and operatives of the State police command for rising up to the challenge of maintaining law and order which had resulted in restoration of peace in her Constituency.
In another development, Speaker Oluomo has directed the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency to erect more traffic signs and deploy its personnel at 100 metres before the traffic light on the Iyana Mortuary/Abiola Way Bridge to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules and regulations, just as he called on the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to erect more walls on the sides of the speed breakers to reduce accident in the area.
He also tasked the State Water Corporation to ensure immediate repair of its facilities in some parts of the State, especially at Joga, Iboro and Igbogila and others.
Oluomo made the requests in his response to the submission of a member representing Abeokuta South I State Constituency, Yusuf Adejojo who appreciated Governor Abiodun for his timely intervention in ordering the construction of speed breaker on the road, with a call for the provision of palliative measures on the Olokuta Road in his constituency, just as his Abeokuta South II and Egbado South I counterparts, Honourables, Ademuyiwa Adeyemi and Adegoke Adeyanju respectively called on the State Water Corporation to ensure an immediate restoration of water supply to their respective Constituencies through repairs of its facilities.
Meanwhile, two bills including: Ogun State Safety Commission Law, 2019 and State Transport Development and Management Law, 2019 scaled first reading in the hallowed Chamber of the Assembly.
The two bills were read for the first time by the Ag. Clerk of the Assembly, Mr Adedeji Adeyemo before the lawmakers at the plenary.
The bills are with the long titles: HB. No. 021/OG/2019- A Bill for a law to make provision for the establishment of the Ogun State Safety Commission and other Matters connected therewith, 2019 and HB No. 022/OG/2019- A Bill for a Law to consolidate all laws relating to the transport sector, to provide for the development and management of sustainable transport system in Ogun State and for connected purposes.
