ALAKE CHARGES MAPOLY RECTOR ON CULTISM ERADICATION

The Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo has enjoined management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State to ensure total eradication of cultism on the school campus.

Oba Gbadebo gave the charge on Tuesday when the polytechnic management paid him a courtesy visit at his palace. 

The monarch equally implored the students not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs. 

 

He added that, incessant alcohol consumption and exposure to cannabis substances such as cocaine, marijuana and use of energy stimulator among the youths to derive sexual satisfaction are responsible for the rampaging mental health challenges.

He therefore alluded that, the polytechnic is ripe to become a degree awarding institution.

Speaking earlier, the Rector, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr. Samson Adeola Odedina enjoined the Alake and Egba Traditional Council to assist the polytechnic in its efforts to attain a high level technology driven institution in the country.

 

Odedina who noted that, the 40years polytechnic is negotiating with some notable universities in the country to upgrade the school into degree awarding institution, explained that the support of the traditional rulers in Egbaland as host community cannot undermined.

He therefore thanked the good people of Abeokuta for accommodating over 27,000 students of the polytechnic in their respective houses.

“Kabiyesi, we came here today to pay homage officially as the Rector of MAPOLY. Although, I have enjoyed the support of the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland since my reign as Vice Chancellor of a federal university in Nigeria. 

“Today, I am happy with my appointment as the Rector of the polytechnic because it’s like home coming for me. We equally came here to appreciate the Kabiyesi for his support at all times for MAPOLY and the good people of Egbaland have been so wonderful by accommodating our over 27,000 students.

“We want the Egba traditional council to continue its support for MAPOLY because we have capacity to admit 33,000 students and there is committee in place to ensure that the polytechnic becomes a degree awarding institution in the next six months.”

In his remark, Oba Gbadebo commended the Polytechnic management for re-branding the face of the institution and making it conducive for learning. 

In his separate remark, the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Sabur Babajide Bakre appreciated the management for the visit, reiterating the support of his kingdom at all times.
