The Ogun State House of Assembly’s Health Committee has praised the state’s health insurance scheme, describing it as a significant step toward delivering accessible and comprehensive healthcare services to residents.
The committee emphasized that the initiative stands to enhance the quality of healthcare in the state, reaching people in both formal and informal sectors.
This commendation came during an advocacy meeting held at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, with a delegation from the Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), led by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Afolabi Dosunmu.
Hon. Wahab Haruna, chairing the committee, highlighted the scheme’s potential to ease healthcare access for a broad range of Ogun residents.
Hon. Haruna, alongside other committee members, voiced strong support for the scheme, noting that it would benefit individuals across all economic backgrounds.
“This initiative will enable many people in the formal and informal sectors to access essential health services,” he stated, underscoring the committee’s commitment to supporting the scheme’s goals.
In their remarks, Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye and Honourables Adegoke Adeyanju, Babatunde Tella, Dickson Awolaja, and Damilare Bello acknowledged the scheme’s challenges but affirmed its importance as the best way forward.
They pledged to act as ambassadors of the health insurance scheme, promising to integrate it into their constituency intervention efforts to increase public awareness and participation.
Earlier, Dr. Afolabi Dosunmu outlined the scheme’s origins and mission. Established in 2018, the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme aims to provide affordable, high-quality healthcare services to all residents through a network of accredited health centers.
Dr. Dosunmu emphasized that the scheme is structured to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder anyone from accessing healthcare, regardless of their income level.
