Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intensify the dismissal of underperforming ministers to accelerate the implementation of the “Renewed Hope” agenda.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, Ndume praised the recent cabinet reshuffle and the creation of the Ministry of Regional Development to oversee regional commissions across the country, calling it “a welcome development.”

The senator emphasized the need for further action, noting that “some ministers are still missing in action” and may need to be replaced to ensure effective governance.

His remarks followed Tinubu’s recent cabinet overhaul, where six ministers were dismissed, seven new ones appointed, and the portfolios of ten others realigned.

Ndume, a former Chief Whip of the Senate, also recommended that President Tinubu convene a national economic summit to develop localized solutions for Nigeria’s economic challenges.

He suggested that the summit be led by respected Nigerian economists, including Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Oby Ezekwesili, Mansur Muktar, Akinwumi Adesina, Aruma Oteh, and Tope Fasua.

“This national economic summit should be purely led by these eminent Nigerians, and they will come up with recommendations instead of the IMF and World Bank’s prescriptions that are harsh and hard on the ordinary citizens,” Ndume stated.

“I believe if the recommendations are good, President Tinubu will implement them, and this will help the country in no small ways.”

He commended Tinubu’s efforts to cut down on government expenses amid economic strain and encouraged other branches of government to adopt similar measures.
