The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the commencement of its Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CBWASSCE) for private candidates, set to begin on Friday, October 25, 2024. This is the first time the private candidate examination will adopt a hybrid mode.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the council’s spokesperson, Adesina Fadekemi, disclosed that the examination will run until December 20, 2024. “The examination will adopt the hybrid mode of delivering the examination, which implies that the objective or multiple-choice questions would be rendered onscreen, and candidates would be required to give their responses on the screen, while the essay and practical questions will be rendered on-screen, likewise, but candidates would have to give their responses using the answer booklets provided,” Fadekemi said.

For those who prefer the traditional mode, WAEC has provided an option for candidates to take the examination using paper and pen.

Additionally, Fadekemi informed prospective candidates that the registration period has been extended to Tuesday, October 29, 2024, allowing more candidates to participate in the exercise.

She further explained that the “Walk-in-Candidate” option, which permits candidates to register 24 hours before a particular paper is scheduled, would also be available at the close of regular registration.
