…Commends Abiodun, Daniel for Naval Base Establishment
The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a bill to amend the Obas and Chiefs, Council of Obas and Traditional Council Laws of Ogun State, 2021.
The bill was presented by the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Dickson Awolaja, during the plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The passage of the bill followed the presentation of the committee’s report, which was moved for adoption as amended by Hon. Awolaja, seconded by Hon. Yusuf Sherif, and supported by the whole House through a voice vote. The bill was later read and adopted clause-by-clause before the Committee of the whole House.
After the third reading, the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, moved the motion for the third reading of the bill, seconded by the Minority Leader, Adeleye Lukman, and supported by the whole House through a unanimous voice vote. The Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin, then read the bill for the third time, and the Speaker directed that the clean copy be forwarded to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his assent.
In another development, a new bill titled “H.B No 017/OG/2024 – Ogun State Power Sector Law, 2024” scaled its first reading. The bill aims to improve electricity generation, transmission, and distribution within Ogun State, establish an electricity market and key power sector bodies, enforce consumer rights and obligations, and for other connected purposes. The title of the bill was read before the lawmakers by the Assembly Clerk, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin.
Furthermore, the Assembly commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for approving 100 hectares of land for the establishment of a Naval Base in the state. Senator Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District, was also praised for facilitating the project through its inclusion in the 2024 National Appropriation Act. The commendation was given while responding to the presentation of a member representing Ogun Waterside State Constituency, Hon. Lawal Samsideen, who lauded the efforts of the Governor and the Senator in establishing the naval base in his constituency. The Assembly recognized the significance of the naval base, stating that it will enhance security in the area and the state as a whole.
