The Organized Labour in Ogun State, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC), has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for releasing 10 months of outstanding voluntary savings of workers in the state.
In a letter signed by NLC Chairman Comrade Hameed Ademola-Benco, TUC Chairman Comrade Akeem Lasisi, and JNC Chairman Comrade Isa Olude, the labour leaders expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for the timely gesture, which comes amidst economic challenges and strategic policy reforms.
The labour leaders noted that the release of the outstanding deductions has reinforced the credibility of the government and enhanced the confidence of workers in the state government.
They also stated that the payment will affirm the mutual and trustworthy relationship between the organized labour and the state government, benefiting the workers.
“We express our unreserved gratitude to Your Excellency for several reasons. Obviously, the State Government is the greatest beneficiary of the accolades that greeted the payment.
“It is better to witness the resounding jubilation that filled the air of various offices, accompanied by praise and prayers for the auspicious payment,” the labour leaders said.
They also appreciated the government for the continuous release of outstanding gratuities to retirees, adding that these releases have combined to ameliorate, in many ways, the rising discontent of a large swath of citizens, especially workers.
The labour leaders acknowledged the proactive steps taken by the government regarding workers’ welfare, noting that the gesture will continue to motivate the entire workforce for greater efficiency.
The commendation letter highlights the Governor’s sensitivity to the welfare of workers in the state, and the labour leaders’ appreciation for his efforts to address their concerns.
