Ogun Road Accidents Claim 2 Lives, Leave 9 Injured

Two persons lost their lives while nine others suffered varying degrees of injuries in two separate auto crashes which occurred at the Sagamu axis Ogun State on Sunday morning.

The first one which occurred by the Majestic Hotel inbound Sagamu involved a Bus Mass Transit in Ogun State colour and a truck in which one person reportedly died and six others suffered varying degrees of injuries.

But after rescuing operations were concluded three more others were discovered to have suffered injuries too.
The accident occurred at 9.48am.

According to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE Public Relations Officer, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi the driver of the Sino truck with no visible number plate lost control of the truck due to speeding and rammed into the BMT Bus with number plate FFF 282 XC.

He said the impact on the bus led to the fatal consequences of claiming one life and injuring nine others.

Akinbiyi said, “Based on eyewitness account, the truck’s driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding and rammed into the BMT bus with a devastating impact. ”

“Regrettably, the driver and motor boy of the truck that caused the accident ran way.”

In the second accident which he said occurred at 11.10am near Odo Gomez was a lone accident involving another truck.

The containerised truck was also headed inbound Sagamu when it suffered a brake failure and Akinbiyi said in panic the motor boy jumped out of the vehicle and it ran over him.

“Based on the account of the driver, the truck lost control due to brake failure and upturned. In this vein, the motorboy jumped from the moving vehicle out of fear and was run over by the truck.”

He told newsmen that the load in the upturned truck was transloaded, while the truck is currently with police for further investigation.

Also he said the corpses of the victims had been deposited at Idera morgue in Sagamu, while the injured are receiving treatment in an hospital.

While the TRACE commiserated with families of the victims, it warned motorists to eschew speeding in view of its attendant consequences.
