Contrary to earlier reports on some news platforms, Channels TV has clarified that its esteemed journalist, Seun Okinbaloye, has not been sacked.

The station took to social media to debunk the rumors, stating that Okinbaloye is currently on vacation in the United States and will resume his duties next week.

The rumors of Okinbaloye’s sack had sparked outrage on social media, with many attributing the alleged move to the perceived bias of the ruling party, APC. However, Channels TV’s swift clarification has put the rumors to rest.

In a statement, the station said, “We wish to inform our esteemed viewers and the general public that Seun Okinbaloye is currently on a break with his family outside Nigeria. He will return to his duties next week. Please disregard any rumors of his sack.”

The development has sparked a renewed call for regulation of social media in Nigeria, with some advocating for stricter measures to curb the spread of misinformation.

However, others have argued that such measures could infringe on freedom of speech and press.

Regardless, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fact-checking and responsible reporting in the digital age.
