Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped by one spot to 39th in the latest FIFA World Ranking for July.

Despite this drop, the team maintains the same 1,498.93 points it had in June. The Super Eagles experienced a significant decline in the June ranking, falling from 30th to 38th, due to lackluster performances in the World Cup Qualifying matches.

On the continental level, Nigeria’s position remains unchanged. The team is still ranked fifth in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Globally, the period of June and July saw a flurry of international matches, with three major continental competitions and numerous friendlies taking place, totaling at least 125 matches. These events had a notable impact on the FIFA World Ranking.

Argentina continues to dominate the rankings after successfully defending their CONMEBOL Copa América title, solidifying their position at the top.

France remains the closest challenger, holding onto the second spot after reaching the semi-finals of UEFA EURO 2024. Spain, the newly crowned European champions, made a significant leap of five places to claim the third spot.

England moved up to fourth, surpassing Brazil, who are now fifth. Belgium has fallen out of the top five and now sits in sixth place.

These changes reflect the dynamic nature of international football, with teams rising and falling based on their performances in key tournaments and matches.
