The North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has cautioned all groups planning nationwide protests against the government to reconsider their actions, citing potential detrimental effects on the country’s progress at this critical juncture.
Forum Chairman Saleh Mandung Zazzaga conveyed this stance during an interview with journalists in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, emphasizing the need to support President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in reshaping and advancing the nation rather than engaging in protests.
Zazzaga pointed out that many of those advocating protests are driven by self-interest and political gain, often backed by entities hostile to the country and its leadership. He vehemently opposed any plans for protests, particularly in the North Central region, citing ongoing security challenges that the president is actively addressing through law enforcement agencies.
Highlighting the region’s vulnerability to violence, including kidnappings and banditry, Zazzaga warned of the potential for protests to be hijacked by criminal elements, posing threats to the safety and property of law-abiding citizens. He recalled previous instances where protests in the region escalated into ethno-religious conflicts, such as the #EndSARS protests, underscoring the need to prevent such outcomes.
Zazzaga urged APC members throughout the region to mobilize against any protest activities, calling on governors, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and other influential figures to counsel against participation in protests given the region’s specific challenges and sensitivities.
