The acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has assured the National
Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, of stronger synergy and cooperation in the fight against human
trafficking, organ harvesters and money laundering.

Magu gave the assurance on July 31, 2019 through the Sokoto Zonal Head of the EFCC, Abdullahi Lawal, when NAPTIP’s Zonal Commandant, Hassan Tahir, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the EFCC.

According to him, the menace of human trafficking, armed banditry and other crimes could only be tackled through inter-
agency cooperation and the larger support of all Nigerians.

He said: “Inter-agency cooperation is key to checking restiveness in this region. We need each other to forge ahead and have a
crime-free society. We have areas of cooperation where we inter- connect.

There is an economic crime to every act of human trafficking and we look at every crime from the economic perspective.”

Lawal further said that corruption was the real basis of criminality in Nigeria and so called for “better enforcement of laws to
checkmate corrupt practices across the country”.

“Crime is being committed, but the root cause of every crime is corruption, we need each other to forge ahead and have a crime- free society,” he added.

On his part, Tahir noted that his visit was “to seek collaboration and synergy” between the two agencies. He also formally welcomed Lawal, the new Zonal Head to Sokoto and promised to collaborate as regards information sharing.
