The Nigerian Senate held an emergency session on Wednesday to address the escalating security crisis in the country.

The recent suicide bombing attacks in Gwoza, Borno State, which claimed numerous lives, sparked outrage and concern among lawmakers.

They unanimously agreed that the country’s security system had collapsed and was “on fire.”

The senators criticized security agencies for their failure to prevent the attacks, attributing it to intelligence failures.

They urged the military to adopt modern technology and scientific tactics to combat insurgency and crime.

Former Governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, alleged that former service chiefs had diverted funds meant for security equipment to build universities and purchase yachts.

The Senate rejected a motion to stop service chiefs from diverting funds and instead directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and NEMA to provide immediate relief materials and medical support to the victims.

The senators expressed condolences to the people of Borno State and urged the Federal Government to take decisive action to address the security crisis.
