Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Yinka Egbeyemi has been removed from his position as Commander of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and reassigned to the Lagos State Police Command.
Egbeyemi, who took on the role of RRS Commander in December 2020, has been replaced by CSP Shola Jejeloye, the former head of the Lagos Taskforce.
Egbeyemi has been redeployed to the administrative department of the Lagos State Police Command after serving over three years as RRS Commander. He will officially hand over his duties to Jejeloye on Friday.
Jejeloye previously became Taskforce chairman in December 2020, succeeding Egbeyemi when he moved to the RRS. CSP Adetayo Akerele has now been appointed as the new Chairman of the Lagos Environmental and Special Offenses Unit (Taskforce), having formerly served as the BRT Lane Monitoring and Enforcement Commander.
During Egbeyemi’s tenure as RRS Commander, the squad frequently impounded vehicles driving the wrong way and seized okadas, functions typically associated with the Taskforce. Under Jejeloye’s leadership of the Taskforce, numerous okada riders were detained and their vehicles destroyed.
However, there were allegations that the Taskforce engaged in land grabbing activities, with significant amounts of money reportedly exchanged.
