An Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court sentenced 35-year-old Kabiru Lawal to three months in prison on Friday for stealing goats and a ram. Lawal, residing in the Olomore area of Abeokuta, pleaded guilty to charges of theft and conversion.

Magistrate V.B. William, following his guilty plea, sentenced Lawal to three months for each count, to run concurrently, with an option to repay the value of the stolen animals to the complainant.

Prosecutor Inspector Lawrence Olu-Balogun stated that in June 2023, Lawal fraudulently obtained eight goats and one ram, worth N300,000, from Mr. Ibrahim Akanbi under the pretense of selling them on his behalf. Lawal sold the animals, kept the money, and fled Ogun state, but was eventually apprehended.

The offenses violated Sections 419(b) and 390(3) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.
